L'Arcivescovo di Glasgow, monsignor Eyre, essendovi molti Italiani nella sua città, avrebbe voluto un prete salesiano che se ne prendesse cura, tanto più che i loro figli venivano insidiati nella religione dai protestanti.

 Si promise però all'Arcivescovo che gli si sarebbe cercato un buono e zelante sacerdote secolare; sperarsi intanto di aver presto personale di lingua inglese per aprire un orfanotrofio anche a Glasgow o in altra città dell'archidiocesi [361]..
